He steps out into the busy crosswalk. It is already flashing its warning before it turns red. 9 seconds, 8, 7, 6… My hurried steps try to catch up with his.

I do have questions. Many questions.

I reach the curb and look over at him and nod.

A phrase from his childhood. I could have been referring to crossing the street. But then again, the deeper meaning spoke to this new way of life.

Several weeks had passed since I had seen Jace, in the flesh anyway. He was busy at school and I busied myself with work and daily life. My list of questions regarding his transition grew each day, playing in the background of my mind. …

A couple of years ago I experienced a small, mental crisis. My home of several years was boxed up and I had let go of my lease. My daughter and I were preparing to move to a new town. With my hopes high for a new beginning, I looked at this move and this charming little town as a fresh start. The perfect place for a home.

Only, there became a hold-up with the new place. Signing the new lease to cement it as mine became delayed. First by a few days, then by almost a week. …

Greetings and salutations! And a very happy new year! Can you believe it? This turbulent year of 2020 is finally coming to a close. We are turning the page on the calendar and turning the wheel of the year.

Together this year we have celebrated Samhain and the Winter Solstice. We now turn our attention to the upcoming holiday of Imbolc where we truly feel the presence of light returning. Much like a single candle flame brightens a room.

Here is a look back at the articles and rituals of this year. …

We all can use a fresh start. Especially after this past year which for many proved to be emotionally exhausting, wearing a bit on our psyche as well as our nerves.

As the calendar page turns into a new day, this time it also marks a new month and a new year, ushering in the excitement of new hope with it. This is a perfect time to take stock. A moment to reflect on what is working in your life, and what you want to create in the coming year.

Remember, what you plant as a seed of inspiration or idea now has the fertile ground to grow but it may require a longer season than 365 solar cycles. …

Looking back on a year is a common ritual. This year we need hindsight.

Three days ago I joined a 5-day challenge to re-ignite my writing. Basically, it’s about letting go of the past year (thank god) and setting intentions for the new one only a couple of days away.

One exercise was to write down 50 achievements or items we are grateful for in the past year. At first, I scoffed. Thinking with the way this year has been, will I actually have 50 items? You know what? I did. And it was easier than I thought.

I will be writing a post about it soon with a curated list of my list and my gratitude. One tool I used to look back was an article I wrote this time last year. It is full of promise for a year and a decade to come. (Little did the world know then what would blindside us). …

Keeping the old ways in modern times.

Alone in her darkened room, she waits. A fire burning in the earth, she watches the flames as they dance and spark. Everything else is quiet. Her children sleep in their beds. She revels for a moment in the quiet. The stillness. Her vigil through the night is long.

A faint light begins to filter into the room, reaching from the windows behind her. She rises and makes her way outside. Yes, it is there. She sees it. A shaft of glimmering light is peeking up over the horizon, sleepy from its long night of darkness too.

A new dawn is breaking. And with it, the hope of new life returning. She smiles to herself. Winter is broken. The sun has returned as promised. …

The upcoming Jupiter/Saturn conjunction will be a light show out of this world!

Or at least it will be a once in a lifetime experience to view what is known…

Zero Waste mindset during the holidays.

I just finished my holiday shopping and am getting ready to decorate and place those presents under the tree. In the past few years…

Dressing my hearth for Solstice brings me cheer in an otherwise quiet year.

“Tis the season for goodwill and cheer. The wheel of the year has made its full round and I find myself decorating my hearth and home for the Solstice season. As I do, I cannot help but remember this time last year and reflect on how very strange this year has been. Yes, it has really been almost a whole year since our lives resembled any sort of “normal”.

This season of the year is a time of welcoming back the light and with it the hope of new beginnings and the promise of change. …

My sadness over the blaring divide in our country and maybe what I can do.

I went into Tuesday hoping for a landslide victory. Then all would be right with the world and the last four years could be chalked up to one very bad memory. The media seemed to indicate a “blue wave” as a tangible possibility.

As the evening progressed, those hopes were quickly dashed.

Even with vice-president Biden ahead in the race to 270 electoral votes and remaining in the lead ( I know because I woke up twice during the night to check), I felt sadness.

A deep, soul sadness due to the apparent divide our country is experiencing. …
